About SUSAN

Susan is a risk and governance professional with deep experience in strategic risk framework development, board and corporate governance, risk governance. 


A former Director in KPMG’s Governance, Risk and Assurance practice, she has spent more than 20 years helping organisations strengthen their governance, risk and assurance frameworks. 


With deep expertise spanning internal audit, ESG, sustainability and corporate governance, she has in-depth, practical experiencing leading and delivering engagements to assess, design and uplift governance and risk practices. 


Her passion lies in supporting purpose-driven organisations to embed effective governance and risk practices, enabling them to focus on what they do best—delivering great outcomes for the communities they serve.

Highly regarded for her subject-matter expertise, Susan has worked extensively with boards, executives and senior leaders across government, not-for-profit, health and human services, education, defence, superannuation and financial institutions. Her experience includes:


  • Board advisory and governance reviews across public, private and community sectors, including board evaluations, governance structure redesign, and improvements to decision-making, accountability and documentation. 
  • Risk management and assurance framework development and review, with a strong focus on governance linkages, board accountabilities and strategic decision-making. She has worked widely with aged care and disability providers, where governance and risk maturity varies but commitment to quality community outcomes is high. 


Susan’s career reflects a consistent focus on practical, purpose-driven improvements that enhance governance integrity, strengthen assurance, and support organisations to make better, more accountable decisions.


Her clients and experience include:

  

  • Board effectiveness reviews for NFP, financial services (APRA-regulated) and health sector clients supporting the review and uplift of practices to meet regulatory and better practice standards, including APRA, ACNC, NDIS and Aged Care obligations. Clients include subsidiaries of one of the Big 4 banks, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation (CSC), Intrust Super, Access Health and NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).


  • Governance and risk maturity reviews for multiple corporates and public sector organisations across Australia including major banks, financial institutions and superannuation funds (APRA regulated), public and community-based health services, ASX listed entities (often with foreign ownership) and not-for-profit associations. 


  • Development and delivery of Board and Director training to support induction and ongoing development of corporate governance capabilities, enabling directors to understand their obligations and importantly, how to meet them through practical, rather than theoretical, tools.


  • Governance and risk subject matter expert for the design, development and delivery of risk and governance uplift. Susan was the governance subject matter expert for a recent major project in the aged care sector - the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s Governing for Reform in Aged Care Program. 


  • Development of enterprise risk frameworks for disability and community services providers as well as government departments in housing and education, including a $5.3 billion housing development fund established by the Victorian Government to build more affordable, sustainable housing for the community. 


  • Facilitation of strategic risk workshops focused on maturing risk practices and enabling more effective governance over material strategic and enterprise risks, to support the use of risk to create, not just protect, value. Clients include aged care providers, local government, retailers (listed and non-listed).


  • Supporting private entities prepare for listing on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) involving gap analysis and recommendations to align governance practices to ASX Corporate Governance Principals and Recommendations.


  • Design of governance operating models to assist organizations reconfigure governance structures, processes and behaviors, including public sector agencies, member-based entities, organizations seeking to list on the ASX, where governance expectations and standards require significant uplift to meet market expectations for capital raising.
